According to Charlie Brook of the Football Whispers, the reason behind AC Milan’s failure to sign either Yannick Carrasco or Gerard Deulofeu is money.

The Serie A outfit was ready to meet Gennaro Gattuso’s demands of adding either of two wingers but could never make the financial breakthrough that they had hoped.

Carrasco who currently plies his trade for Chinese Super League outfit, Dalian Yifang is on a massive contract. The 25-year-old was at the top of the Rossoneri’s January shortlist and had even agreed to lower his wages to mark his return to European football.

Unfortunately, the Chinese club ended up blocking the trade in the final moments. Milan could never settle on a deal, initially wanting to sign the player on loan for 18 months along with a buy-back clause.

AC Milan sporting director, Leonardo wanted to acquire the services of Gerar Deulofeu as well. The former Barcelona man made the switch to Watford in January 2018 and has managed 3 goals and 3 assists in 17 appearances this season.

He is an integral part of Javi Gracia’s setup at the Vicarage Road. The Hornets slapped a €30m price tag on the Spanish winger which immediately discouraged the San Siro outfit.

With the January transfer window now closed, AC Milan will have to resume their season with the 5 signings they made this month. Gattuso is now keeping tabs on Everton’s Ademola Lookman, Nice’s Allan Saint-Maximin and Club Brugge’s Arnaut Groeneveld for a possible move next summer.
