8. Japan 5-3 USA

The  Japanese Women’s team went onto face the United States of America back in the 2011 Women’s Soccer World Cup.

The United States went into that final match as very strong favorites while Japan were the underdogs of the day and had never been in World Cup final before that. It was the Woman’s Japanese team that humiliated the U.S on the day.

7. The Faroe Islands 1-0 Austria at the European Championship Qualification in 1990

In former times, Austria was a great soccer nation. But at that day in 1990 the lost against the non-professional Faroe national team. The Faroe Islands were to be home in the fixture but the game was not played on the islands due to the fact that their was no pitch with grass on the islands and hence the game was played in Sweden.

The Faroe Islands were not expected to win because they were not experienced and did not play competitive football frequently but to many fans surprise they managed to beat Austria one goal to nil.

6. Switzerland Vs. Iceland 4-4

Highly favoured Switzerland wasted a 4-1-lead against soccer nobody Iceland at World Championship qualification 2013. Maybe the biggest soccer upset before the World Championship itself.

Though it was the visitors Iceland who took the lead with only three minutes played into the first half with a goal from  Jóhann Gudmundsson but the lead was not long lived with the two teams leaving the score line at 3-1 in favor of Switzerland.

But as the game proceeded in the second-half Blerim Dzemaili converted a penalty for Switzerland to make it 4-1. This was a convincing lead but Iceland responded immediately with a goal from Kolbeinn Sigthórsson to make it 4-2. Before Jóhann Gudmundsson scored two goals to complete his hat trick and level the score and earn a point for his team there by ending the match with a full time score line of 4-4.

5. Denmark Beats Germany 2-0 at the Finals of the European Championship Football 1992

The Danes didn’t even qualify for the tournament, but they moved up due to the disqualification of Yugoslavia. Never expected that they would win the tournament against the reigning world champion Germany.

The match was played in Sweden and like most of the cases on the list, Germany were favorites while Denmark were the under dogs. The Danes started the match at full throttle and found the back of the net during the first half with a wonderful goal from John Jensen from in inside the 18 yard box into the top right corner of the goal. Denmark sealed the victory with another goal goal late in the second half with only 12 minutes to goal this time  Kim Vilfort was the one who killed the game.

4. North Korea Beats Italy 1-0 at the 1966 World Championship

One of the biggest underdog victories ever in Soccer history. The North Koreans were the underdogs of the 1966 World Cup. Due to the fact that they were debutantes to the World Cup. While Italy were strong favorites with their success winning the World Cup twice. They won successively in the years 1934 and 1938.

The Koreans went onto the pitch with the mindset of winners and as they played through the game they only managed to score a single goal. And that was the only one needed at the moment to seal the game.

This goal saw North Korea to a 1-0 win over Italy.

3. The USA Defeated England 1-0 at World Cup Football 1950

It was one of the biggest underdog victories ever at that time. Joe Gaetjens, a Haitian born player was in the starting line up for the Americans. The English walked into the match as favorites following back-to-back wins two weeks before. With a 4-0 victory over Italy and a 10-0 victory against the Portuguese. While the Americans had lost seven of their previous international matches.

Joe Gaetjens, the Haitian born player stuck to the task and won the game.

This game shocked the world and was called by many as the ‘Miracle Match’.

2. The Netherlands Beat Spain 5-1 at World Cup 2014

In second place is the defeat of former World Champions Spain by the Netherlands. Their loss was the worst ever for a defending champion team in the group stage.

The Spaniards took the lead in the first half of the highly anticipated game. To their amazement flying Dutchman Robin Van Persie leveled the score line. By heading home beautifully with a diving header just before the first half.

It was a game that would not be easily decided. But the Dutch proved the world wrong by going on to score 4 goals in the second half. That saw the game to a 5-1 full-time score line.

This victory was as embarrassing to the fans as to the players on the pitch.

1. Germany Defeats Brazil 7-1 World Cup Semifinals

Here is the most embarrassing of all the The Most Embarrassing Losses In Football History. A 7-1 score is a huge loss. Especially if you are the host country, and Brazil lost two of their best players that tournament, but really? A 7-1 slaughtering is crazy!

It would seem Brazil didn’t even show up for this game. The loss was so bad that the Germans apologized to the host nation for beating them so bad. Not only did Brazil embarrass themselves, but they brought embarrassment upon their whole country.

The Brazilian team could not bear to see there team lose. Many broke down in tears due to the embarrassment they were put through by the Germans. They could not stop scoring till the final whistle.

Most of the Brazilian players could not wait to hear the final whistle. But Chelsea star Oscar stood to his task and got a consolation goal for the hosts.
