Well we have the answer as we have prepared a list of the Top 10 Highest Scoring Defenders in The Last 10 Years.

Generally in football it is not a defenders main job to score goals but to defend or stop the opposing team from finding the back of the net, but we have taken the time to write a list of defenders who have scored the most number of goals in the past decade.

10. Marcelo – 39 goals

Marcelo is a Brazilian professional footballer for Spanish club Real Madrid and the Brazil national team. He plays mainly as a left back, but can also operate as a left winger.

He scored his first goal after receiving a heel flick from striker Gonzalo Higuaín and slotting the ball past the goalkeeper in Madrid’s 4–0 thumping of Sporting de Gijón. He has been irreplaceable at Madrid since then.

9. Heiko Westermann – 40

The former German footballer who played as a central defender retired in 2018, but his legacy is still here. He managed to score an impressive number of 40 total goals during his career at Greuther Fürth 83, Arminia Bielefeld, Schalke 04, Hamburger SV, Real Betis, Ajax and Austria Wien.

8. Christian Maggio – 42

Christian Maggio is an Italian footballer who plays as right back for Italian side Benevento in the Serie B. Christian Maggio joined Napoli from Sampdoria in 2008 for a fee €8 million. The Italian has played for 5 clubs in the last 10 years and has scored 42 goals in 10 years making him the eight on the list of Top 10 Highest Scoring Defenders in The Last 10 Years.

7. Leighton Baines – 42

Leighton Baines makes it to number 6 on the list with 26 goals in the past 10 years. He notched these up while playing for only 2 clubs Wigan Athletic and Everton. The 30 year old started his career at Wigan Athletic and then went onto Everton in 2007 for £6 million after rejecting a lucrative offer from Sunderland.

6. Aleksandar Kolarov – 49 goals

Serbian professional footballer who plays for Italian club Roma and captains the Serbia national team.[3] Although primarily a left-back, Kolarov can also operate as a centre-back and anywhere along the left flank and is known for his overlapping attacking runs on the wing, his powerful ball-striking ability with his left foot, and his accuracy from free kicks. He was named Serbian Player of the Year in 2011.

Ever since his arrival, Kolarov has been named Roma’s primary free-kick taker.

5. Marcell Jansen – 50 goals

Marcell Jansen is a German former footballer and current president of Hamburger SV. He was well known for his accurate crossing and pace, despite his tall stature. A versatile player, he played primarily as a full back or wing back on the left flank, but could also play as a left-winger or even as a striker. Despite finishing his career at age 29, he is to this day one of the best goalscoring defenders to have ever existed.

4. Gerard Pique – 51 goals

The Spanish defender footballer who plays as a centre-back for Barcelona is the second highest goalscorer on the list. Piqué is considered to be one of the best defenders in the world.

Piqué’s first goal for Barcelona came in the club’s 2–5 Champions League group stage win at Sporting CP on 26 November 2008. His first domestic goal for the club followed two months later, on 29 January 2009, in a Copa del Rey match against local rivals Espanyol.

3. Naldo – 65

We are getting closer to first spot but before we reach the top spot let’s look at the player in third spot and its Brazilian defender Naldo with 65 goals to his name in the last 10 years while playing for 5 clubs during that time.

The Brazilian has got a few years to score some goals to his name as he is 37 years old and is likely to retire anytime soon.

2. John Terry – 67

This list could not have been complete without veteran Chelsea Football Club defender John Terry who comes in second with 67 goals all of them scored while playing for The Blues in the Past 10 years. Arguably one of the best defenders in the past 10 years without a doubt, Terry kept his consistency in top form over the years whilst playing for Chelsea.

He officially retired from football in 2018.

1. Sergio Ramos – 129 goals

No defender in world football currently scores more than the Real Madrid captain, and what’s more impressive is he does it at crucial moments too. Ramos scored vital goals for his side in both Champions League finals against bitter rivals Atletico Madrid.

Ramos has become the main penalty taker for his side since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.
