The future looks very bright for Liverpool, with their current first-team squad pushing hard for the Premier League title, a return to the Champions League right around the corner and a group of young players either making waves in Brendan Rodgers’ squad or impressing on loan.

And one of the latter has been speaking about his hopes for the future, with current Stoke City loanee Oussama Assaidi revealing he intends to overcome his current injury woes before hopefully proving to Rodgers that he deserves another chance at Anfield.

The 25-year-old Moroccan was enjoying a sparkling spell under Mark Hughes before a knee injury brought that to a swift end.

Prior to that set-back, Assaidi had scored four goals and provided two assists, with his all-round play and threat from the wing commended by many who saw him.

And in an interview with Stoke City’s official website, the winger said he hoped to return this season, before facing a summer that could decide his long-term future.

“I am recovering well, so I hope it is not too long until I can be picked to play again,” he said.

But of next season and beyond he remains in the dark.

“I really don’t know,” he said. “I’m unsure what Stoke or Liverpool wants. I still have a contract with Liverpool and I hope the boss gives me a chance

“If not, I do not want to sit on the bench because I want to play games so you never know what can happen in the future.”

Given his age it is no surprise that Assaidi wants to be playing as much as possible. But when you consider the players currently impressing at Anfield, and with likely new arrivals this summer, he would have to go some to stake a claim for regular first-team football in a resurgent Liverpool side.
