Arsenal were facing an embarrassing loss to Norwich City in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, that was until youngster Eddie Nketiah came on to save their embarrassment in the closing stages.

With the Gunners 1-0 down at home to the Championship side, Arsene Wenger sent on Nketiah in the 85th minute and it was a change that proved to be a masterstroke.

Nketiah – a former Chelsea youth player – scored the equaliser with his first touch to send the match to extra time, and then headed home would turned out to be the winner during the additional period.

Many Arsenal fans would not have heard of Nketiah before the game, with this just his second appearance for the club after playing one minute in a Europa League win at BATE back in September.

However, his impact has been unanimously praised by Gunners fans and compared to that of Marcus Rashford, who scored twice on his Manchester United debut back in 2015-16.

Among Nketiah’s new fans is the legendary Thierry Henry, who tweeted after the game “What a night for @EddieNketiah9. So happy for him and not surprised at all!”.

“I’m delighted first of all to make my home debut and to get on a score two goals and win the match for Arsenal is a great feeling for me and my family,” said Nketiah after the match.

“I’m just so happy that I could hear the fans screaming my name, it’s been a childhood dream for me”
