Ex-Liverpool star tips Spurs for glory
Atletico Madrid striker has tipped Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs to win the Premier League.
It’s clear that this season will be one of the most open campaigns that the league has ever seen, and a handful of teams could claim they have a shot at winning the title, especially after Leicester’s fantastic triumph last season.
However, ex-Liverpool striker Torres has tipped the North-London side to finish top of the pile in the future, after coming so close last season.
orres said: “Pochettino is doing a great job mixing these talented young players they have with more experienced players.
“Last season they were really close to winning the Premier League and they are on their way, but in the future they will do it.”
Pochettino’s side cruelly fell away towards the end of the last campaign and ended up finishing third behind Leicester and bitter rivals Arsenal.
He added: “It’s an amazing club, they have amazing fans. When I was in England, it was always special to go to White Hart Lane and play against them.”
For Chelsea and Liverpool fans, Torres’ high praise about a Premier League rival may come as a bit of a surprise but it does show Spurs’ growth in stature over the last couple of years.
The ill-fated collapse of Harry Kane and Co. two months ago was put down to their naivety amongst other factors which can only improve with experience and their key men will need to demonstrate they have learnt from last season’s heartbreak to prove Torres right.
