Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic is confident that he will earn a new contract at the club this season, with his current deal set to expire in June.

The 31-year-old has racked up over 220 appearances for the Blues since joining from Lokomotiv Moscow in 2008, however his form this season has raised question marks over what his long-term future will hold.

Chelsea have struggled defensively this season and have conceded 24 goals in 15 league games as they sit in 15th. It comes as a surprise to see them leak so many goals, particularly as it’s the same back four which won them the league last campaign.

With Inter Milan supposedly linked, Chelsea will have to move quickly to offer Ivanovic a new deal as he is free to speak to foreign clubs from January on a pre-contract basis.

However, Ivanovic is keen to continue his 7-year association with Jose Mourinho’s side, insisting that he’s not looking for a move away from the capital despite time running out on his current contract.

“Honestly, I am so happy [here],” he said.

“I am trying to do my best. I know I didn’t start the season well, but I am back.

“I hope the result will be good for the team. In that case, I will be good as well. I hope and I think we will have time to speak about my future.”
