‘I am leaving Porto’

FC Porto star Jackson Martinez has officially confirmed that he’s leaving the Portuguese club this Summer, alerting Premier League sides Arsenal and Liverpool.

The Colombian striker has been one of the deadliest finishers around Europe in recent seasons, but his loyalty to Porto kept him at the club despite strong interest elsewhere.

However, last Summer he announced that he is considering his future and could make a move away from the club in the near-future, and he has now confirmed that his time at Porto is coming to an end.

The striker will be featuring in the Copa America in Chile over the Summer, and he’s admitted that his sole focus is on that at the minute, but he has confirmed that he won’t be at Porto next season.

Martinez Confirms Move

‘I’m leaving Porto,’ he told Portuguese radio.

‘I’m focused on the national team at the moment, but I’m waiting to see what my future holds.’

The latest comments from Martinez will spark interest from Arsenal and Liverpool, both whom are in the market for a new striker ahead of next season.

Arsenal and Liverpool Interested

The Gunners want to add depth to their squad as they only currently have Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud at the club as recognised strikers, whilst Liverpool are desperate to replace their failed attackers.

Mario Balotelli, Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert are all expected to leave Anfield over the Summer, meaning Brendan Rodgers will be in the market for a couple of new strikers.

Several names have been linked including Danny Ings and Christian Benteke, but after Martinez’s comments, Rodgers and Arsene Wenger could make formal bids for the 28-year-old.

Release Clause

Martinez has a release clause in his contract of just £24.7million.
