Benfica star Victor Lindelof has been handed the number two shirt by Manchester United ahead of his £38million switch to Old Trafford.

The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with a transfer to United recently and Benfica’s president was in Manchester last week to negotiate the deal further.

Lindelof has impressed a number of top European clubs with solid performances ever since he made his debut for the Portuguese giants back in 2013.

Portuguese news organisation RTP claim that the £38m deal between United and Benfica is all but confirmed and that the Sweden international has been given the number two shirt by the Red Devils.

Rafael Da Silva was the last player to hold the number two shirt at the Theatre of Dreams, before he joined French outfit Lyon in 2015.

Lindelof’s move will take Mourinho’s spending past the £180m milestone in January, after having his first transfer window with the club in summer.
