Chelsea coach Antonio Conte has been vague on David Luiz’s future at Stamford Bridge amid rumors of a bust-up and now Real Madrid links.
Luiz has been out injured for the last few games which has given Chelsea youngster Andreas Christensen a chance to shine. But, Luiz was initially dropped from the team to play Manchester United after Conte and Luiz had a falling out and Christensen has secured his place in the team ever since.
And pressed for an update on Luiz, Conte was unsure when he’d be back.
He’s having treatment in his knee. ‘It’s not simple to understand how much longer [he will have this] injury but at the same time I think the doctors are doing the best to try and allow him to recover very soon.’
And while It’s fair to say he’s unsure of when Luiz will be back, given he has fluid in his knee, Conte also did not rule out a possible move to Real Madrid.
“I must be honest I don’t read this because I don’t have time to read, we are playing every three days so my focus is on the pitch, our preparation and my team.
“These are speculations but we pass from my sacking to the Real Madrid [rumours].
If Conte considered Luiz as his star defender he would have immediately rubbished the Real Madrid rumors and said no it’s not happening. But instead he stated that he hasn’t read those rumors. Additionally Conte failed to reassure fans of luiz’s future at Stamford Bridge given his nonchalant answer to the rumors.
It seems Conte has still not forgiven Luiz after their dressing room bust-up and Luiz could be on his way out in January or next summer if they don’t reconcile their relationship.
