Tottenham boss Antonio Conte eyes Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku as potential Harry Kane replacement

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte is considering a move for Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku, according to reports, if the Italian loses star Harry Kane any time soon.

Conte arrived in North London in November when Spurs requested him to replace Nuno Espirito Santo, who was fired following a spate of dismal results. After guiding Inter Milan to the Serie A title the previous summer, the Italian was out of work.

The former Inter Milan manager wants to reunite with Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku, who was his frontman in Italy. The Belgian striker was instrumental in Conte’s Scudetto triumph while at Inter, turning into a goal machine alongside Lautaro Martinez as they led them to their first Serie A title in eleven years.

Conte, on the other hand, has supported Kane to succeed and is thought to be pleased with the 28-year-efforts old’s this season. The Italian also stated that the striker is an important part of Tottenham’s future, thinking that the club should keep elite players like Kane who can propel them to success with their skill.

The English skipper’s highly discussed move to Manchester City did not materialise the previous summer, even though the striker was keen on the move. Despite Spurs doing well to keep Kane for this season, there seems to be no guarantee that the forward will stay with Spurs beyond the current campaign.

Spurs supporters would almost probably prefer to keep Kane over Lukaku. He is one of their own, of comparable age to Lukaku, and has certainly had more individual success in the Premier League than the Chelsea attacker. It remains to be seen whether this reunion can take place in the coming windows.
