Alex Iwobi has insisted the reason behind his emergence this season has been the trust Unai Emery has shown in him.
Iwobi has been one of the most standout players for the Gunners as they continued to march on after defeating Leicester City 3-1. This was their 10th win on a trot in all competitions which speaks volumes about their consistency.
Iwobi came through the Gunners academy and broke through the first team during Arsene Wenger’s reign. But he lacked that killer instinct in him which is needed to thrive on this big stage.
But this season the Nigerian international has transformed into a more matured player and Emery’s possession based system has instilled a great amount of belief in him.
Iwobi said, “He has just given me confidence to express myself, to believe in my ability which I have been trying to show.
“In training he is always letting me try new things, be positive, be direct and prove it in the game. It is working for me so I just have to keep it going.”
“I would just say I am more confident. I feel that even if I make a mistake I am able to go again. I think that is the difference between me last year and this year.”
