A former football coach and scout has been arrested as part of an investigation into allegations of abuse in the sport.

Michael Sean Carson, 74, and known as “Kit”, from Cambridge, has been detained by police on suspicion of indecent with children and indecent assault.

He has worked for various clubs including Peterborough United, Cambridge United and Norwich City.

Cambridgeshire Police said a man in his 70s is currently in custody.

Carson joined Norwich as youth manager back in 1983, working with children aged nine to 16.

In 2001, he moved to Cambridge United as head of youth development, where he remained until 2006.

Mr Carson has also worked extensively in Finland – where he began coaching youth teams in 2012 – and taken UK youth teams on competitive tours of the country.

Police said they were working with the Football Association, local children’s safeguarding boards and councils as part of their county-wide investigations.

Abuse scandals seem to be cropping up a lot in the last few months, with many cases being quite serious.

It is always a dark day when a story like this breaks, and is never good for the sport, but as we wait for all those accused to get justice, football fans all over the world will be hoping that we will soon see the end of these stories.
