No.3 is very strange…
Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann recently gave his opinion on who the top 3 players of 2016 have been.
2 were a given, as he picked La Liga rivals and best players in the world, Lionel Messi of Barcelona and Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid.
However, his choice for the number 3 spot was one many didn’t expect.
Griezmann selected Leicester City star Jamie Vardy, who helped his team to Premier League glory last season.
‘Cristiano Ronaldo first, as he’s won two titles, then Lionel Messi because he’s unique and after that maybe Jamie Vardy for winning the English title with Leicester,’ he told Goal.
‘Ronaldo and Messi are two monsters, two legends. In 10 years, the world will say that no-one will ever be able to equal them.
‘I’m going to try and get as close as possible and to continue to raise my level each year to become the best player possible.’
It does seem a strange selection, but without his goals, Leicester probably wouldn’t have done it, should Vardy be a serious contender for the Ballon D’or?
