Blues boss admits to being impressed by Nigeria during pre-season

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has hailed Victor Moses as “fantastic” and a “very important” player following the Nigerian’s goal against Tottenham on Saturday.

The 25-year-old winger put the Blues on level terms at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night, as they went on to beat their bitter rivals Tottenham 2-1, having fell behind early on to a fabulous Christian Eriksen strike.

Moses has been shipped out on loan on three occasions since joining Chelsea from Wigan in 2012, and when Conte arrived in the summer it looked like the player’s future was away from the Bridge.

However, Conte admits the player impressed during pre-season and Moses has managed to earn his place in the Italian’s team – paying back his faith in him ever since.

Having never previously been able to break into the Chelsea squad on a consistent basis, Moses left on loan for Liverpool where he made just 19 appearances, before joining Stoke and West Ham on loan respectively.

But despite the Hammers rejecting the chance to sign the Nigerian during the summer, Moses has flourished at the 2015 Premier League champions this term and will undoubtedly be relieved with his decision to remain in west London.

“Victor is a good player.” Conte admitted. “I saw him during the pre-season and I wanted to keep him in the squad.

“I think he’s playing fantastic football for us and he is very important.”

The winger turned wing-back is relishing the opportunity to work with Conte and the manager, himself, is deservedly getting the rewards for the faith he has put in Moses so far this campaign.
