Blues boss Antonio Conte reveals the reason why he has had fewer injuries than most clubs

The Italian says it is down to what he sees rather than what he reads on the stats sheet .

Chelsea are currently as I write this, sitting top of the Premier League, and the one advantage they have had is the benefit of a fully fit squad, there has been a few exceptions, but not as much as their Premier League rivals

Ahead of their clash with West Brom on Sunday Conte has slight concerns over Nemanja Matic and David Luiz, but says both could still feature at Stamford Bridge.

“The statistics are important to check during a game or training,” he said.

“But I think the most important thing is for my eyes and it is important to look and see if a player is more tired than the other. If someone is lazy or not, then you can push.

“For sure I am pleased because in one season it’s very important to avoid muscular problems because they are very difficult.

“But to avoid these problems it is important to work and to have a mentally philosophy during training and to work with the players and medical staff and to try find the best solution to have less injuries.”

He added: “The number of injuries is always important at the end of the season and to look at the statistics is important.

“Usually when you have any injuries you can lose key players during the season and it’s not good for the team.”
