Arsenal chiefs have flown to Spain in order to hold a formal meeting with Real Madrid officials to discuss a potential deal for striker Karim Benzema.

The Gunners are desperate to add another striker to their squad to help take the load off Olivier Giroud, and Benzema has been monitored by Arsene Wenger for numerous seasons now, and with money there to spend, the Frenchman could finally be set to land the 26-year-old.

According to reports, Wenger will have up to ÂŁ100million to spend on transfers this Summer, with a right-back, holding-midfielder and striker all on his wishlist, and Benzema is right at the top of his list and is keen on securing a deal as soon as possible.

The Madrid forward only has 12-months left on his current deal and could now be available at the right price for Wenger and Arsenal, who are willing to pay up to ÂŁ30m for the former-Lyon hitman.

The Spanish giants are already keeping tabs on potential Benzema replacements, and Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero and Liverpool’s Luis Suarez are both on top of their list.

Arsenal officials will be in Spain to hold the talks, and will keep Wenger up to date with the process, and they are feeling confident about wrapping up a deal as they believe Benzema is open to a move away, despite just winning the Champions League.
