Arsenal end interest in Schneiderlin

Manager Arsene Wenger has decided to stick by Francis Coquelin instead

The Gunners would rather focus their attention on Petr Cech, according to the Mail on Sunday.

Morgan Schneiderlin, 25, moved to the South Coast club back in 2008 and his recent performances have attracted interested from the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United.

The French midfielder helped the Saints to seventh in the Premier League and qualify for the Europa League in the process.

The new Makelele

Arsenal were reportedly keen on the Southampton man but the emergence of Francis Coquelin in recent weeks has given Wenger food for thought.

Six months ago, Coquelin was on loan at Charlton but was called back as injury cover and has since gone on to become a regular in the starting XI.

Wenger eyes Cech

Arsenal officials are apparently against spending big on attacking players and would rather opt to turn their attention to defensive-minded players i.e. a new goalkeeper.

Petr Cech, who looks likely to be leaving Chelsea in the summer, is a target for Wenger although the 33-year-old looks set for a move to Besiktas.

With Schneiderlin no longer on Arsenal’s radar, Manchester United could now decide to make a move for the former Strasbourg midfielder.
