Arsenal have reportedly offered a new contract to right-back Takehiro Tomiyasu.
The Japanese defender hit the ground running since his arrival at the Emirates in the summer of 2021.
Last season he struggled with a few injuries and played second fiddle to English defender Ben White.
But his versatility has proven to be a key asset for manager Mikel Arteta months after considering selling the defender in the summer window.
Tomiyasu has attracted attention from Bayern Munich but Arsenal has no intention to sanction a departure in the January transfer window.
His current deal expires in 2025 and according to The Athletic, Arsenal are expected to reach an agreement in the next few weeks.
The Japanese international has scored one goal and made five assists in 71 matches for the North London club.
The Gunners will need a deeper squad to compete in multiple competitions and also compete with clubs like Manchester City.
“I really want him to stay. I value the player a lot, I really like him. I think he’s loved and respected by everybody at the club,” Arteta told a press conference.
“He’s getting a lot of minutes now, he’s getting his availability to the level that we need for him to make an impact in the team and I think he will continue to be with us.”
