It has been revealed that Arsenal offered £12.5 million plus a loan deal for Joel Campbell, in exchange for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho, reports the Daily Express.
Arsenal were keen on the 22 year old, and reportedly had a £20 million bid rejected, alongside Manchester United.
According to reports in Portugal, Sporting were open to sell their prized midfielder, however neither Arsenal or United could possibly strike up a deal for the highly rated youngster.
However, Arsenal did offer the Portuguese club Joel Campbell on a season long loan deal, plus the £12.5 million fee.
Campbell, who impressed at the World Cup finals with Costa Rica, eanted a loan move away from the Emirates, with the striker unable to force his way up the pecking order at the club.
The 22 year old striker was also wanted by both Benfica and Galatasaray.
