Arsenal are set to make a shock bid for Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic as they prepare for the selling of captain Thomas Vermaelen, who is likely to join Manchester United. It is understood that manager Arsene Wenger is a big fan of the Serbian defender, who can play centre-back and right-back.
Arsenal have also lost another defender after Bacary Sagna joined Manchester City on a three-year-deal. Wenger believes that they will be able to lure the 30-year-old across London to the Emirates for a fee of around £7 million.
