Arsene Wenger defends size of squad

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes his side is bigger than what people think.

Many pundits have suggested that Wenger doesn’t have enough depth at his disposal in order to win silverware this year, but the Frenchman seems to disagree with them.

During the weekend’s FA Cup clash with Tottenham Hotspur, Wenger made four changes overal to his starting XI, yet they still managed to comfortably see off Tim Sherwood’s men thanks to goals from Santi Cazorla and Tomas Rosicky.

After the game, Wenger was questioned about transfers this month and was asked whether his squad lacks depth in order to win the title, but the Frenchman seems adamant that his squad is bigger than what people suggest.

“We have a bigger squad than people expect,” he said. “Especially when you see people like Gnabry – we had Gibbs and Ramsey out – [it shows] we have plenty of players who can compete for a place in the team.

“I loved Serge’s game because he is not only an individual talent but his position on the pitch was right ands his contribution to the team work was right. He gave two or three balls to score and I like that, it’s a sign of quality.

“I will give him more games but he plays on the right in the position where Walcott plays, but he can play on the left as well. It’s about balance in the team as well, and about the balance between attacking and defending. He’s a very intelligent player.”

“We are like everyone, we look out there and see what is happening,” he said. “Unless you have a club in a desperate financial situation it will be difficult.”
