Liverpool, Newcastle & West Ham are all targeting the player

Atletico Madrid have expressed an interest in signing Monaco defender Aymen Abdennour, joining a host of clubs in the race for his signature.

The 2013/14 La Liga champions are looking to replace Brazilian Miranda, who was sold to Inter Milan, with a top class centre back, Abdennour being top of their list.

Spanish newspaper AS single out Anderlecht‘s Chancel Mbemba as another top target for Atletico, who are chasing a number of quality centre halves.

Abdennour meanwhile is also linked with a move to Liverpool, after his agent revealed the Reds featured in a list of clubs interested in the player.

The Tunisia international is valued at £12.5 million

Speaking about a potential bid from Barcelona last month, agent Abdelkader Jilani said:

“They are one of the interested parties, like Milan, Inter, Juventus and Liverpool.”

West Ham are another club looking to convince the 25 year old to sign, with their move to the Olympic Stadium next season.

Newcastle are also interested in signing yet another player from Ligue 1 in France.

It would be the Toon‘s first summer signing, as fans begin to grow restless at the lack of transfer activity under new boss Steve McClaren.
