FC Barcelona midfielder Alex Song, who is wanted by Premier League side Manchester United, is now being closely monitored by Atletico Madrid.
The Cameroon international was linked with a move back to England after failing to establish himself in Barca’s first-team since moving their from Arsenal back in the Summer of 2012, but David Moyes now faces a serious challenge from Atletico in the race for the holding-midfielder.
The United boss is desperate to sign a new midfielder and after missing out on both Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara last season, his attentions are now on Song, who is likely to leave the Nou Camp this year after limited first-team opportunities.
However, Madrid will also be keen to sign the 26-year-old from their Spanish rivals, and they could also face competition from Italian duo Napoli and Inter Milan.
