Who will take the first prizes of the season?
The nominations for the Premier League player and manager of the month awards have been announced today.
Manchester United’s Antonio Valencia, Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling and Hull’s Curtis Davies are all nominated the player of the month after a strong start to the season.
Hazard looks to be getting back to his best after having a poor season last campaign, while Sterling had adapted to life under Pep Guardiola very quickly, and looks more like the player he promised to be when he burst onto the scene at Liverpool.
Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola, Antonio Conte and Mike Phelan are all nominated for manager of the month. The first 3 on that list have all lead their team to perfect starts to the season, while Phelan has had an impressive start with a Hull side who are technically still without a permanent manager.
Few predicted Phelan would be in contention after a turbulent summer at the KCOM Stadium but he is there on merit with victories over champions Leicester City and Swansea City and only a last-gasp Marcus Rashford winner denying him a point against Man United.
