Barcelona have told Paris St-Germain, who are report to be favourites to sign him, they must pay a world record 222m euro (ÂŁ198m) fee “in full” before Neymar can join them.
Back in October, Neymar penned a new deal with Barcelona, signing on until 2021 with his buy-out clause raised to more than double the biggest transfer fee in football history.
If PSG decides to pay the clause, it would break the previous world record transfer of $156 million that Manchester United forked out for France midfielder Paul Pogba last year.
Neymar wants to leave Barcelona
Only a few hours before Barca released a statement, Neymar spent just 30 minutes at the club’s training ground in Sant Joan Despi notifying his teammates and coach Ernesto Valverde that he wished to leave. Valverde then gave him permission to go.
