Berbatov can leave, admits Fulham boss

Fulham manager Rene Meulensteen has revealed that striker Dimitar Berbatov is free to leave the club as he will refuse to stand in any player’s way who wants out of the club.

The Bulgarian striker is reportedly unsettled at Craven Cottage and his agent has been talking to the media recently claiming that he wants to leave the London-based club in order to experience a new challenge.

Meulensteen and Berbatov have a good working relationship with each other due to their time spent at Manchester United and although the new Fulham boss has admitted he will allow the striker to leave, he still expects full commitment from the 31-year-old up until his departure.

‘I will not stand in anyone’s way if they want to leave.

‘With Dimitar I had a good chat when I took over and he has been as good as gold to me, looking at the performance he has put in against Tottenham and Aston Villa.

‘With him we are going to really focus on the four upcoming games we have got, and from the performance levels that I have seen I am sure everyone will agree if Dimitar plays at that level he will be a very important player in the games to come.’
