Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has hailed his side’s performance against Fulham yesterday as ‘outstanding’.

The Reds strolled to a 4-0 victory at Anfield after goals from Martin Skrtel, a Fernando Amorebieta own goal and also a brace from Luis Suarez, with the win taking them to second, just two points behind Arsenal, who travel to Old Trafford later today.

After the game, Rodgers was full of praise for star-man Suarez and was also full of positives for his team in general.

“Our appetite for the game was outstanding. Luis Suarez is a star talent but his core ingredient is his workrate, which is something we’re trying to have throughout the team.

“He covers and presses and is a good talisman. Our quality was very good. At half-time I said I wanted us to be relentless, to keep pushing.

“But our intensity was outstanding after the first whistle. We saw today as a very important game, and we made an excellent start. Home games are important, so it was a good victory for us.”

The only down-side for Rodgers is the knock to captain Steven Gerrard, who appeared to pick up a hip injury during the game.

“He had had a wee issue with his hip, where I can rest him I will,” Rodgers said.

“I haven’t spoken to the medical team, but he should be fine [for England].”
