Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has signed a new long term deal at Anfield after nearly taking Liverpool to their first league title in 24 years.

He gave his reaction to the contract on Liverpool’s official club website.

Rodgers stated off by saying “It leaves me hugely honoured. I’m absolutely delighted to be able to continue what has been a really exciting time for the club” he went on to say “It was always going to be straightforward because I love being at Liverpool. There’s still a lot of development in the club for me and it was always going to be straight forward once the season was finished.”

Liverpool have qualified for the Champions League for the first time in 5 years this season, Rodgers added “It’s a real exciting time. I’ve seen the games before and I’ve been fortunate enough to have been at Anfield on a Champions League occasion and they are truly special occasions. You see the support the players get.”

Brendan Rodgers talked about new signings “Of course, at the club, where we are now, the signings are complex; they are not all simple signings. But we need to strengthen up the squad and that’s something that we’re working hard to do over the next number of weeks.”

He finally thanked the fans “”It gives me great encouragement every day of my life that all the supporters I meet are very complimentary of the work that is going on at the moment. Hopefully now, this contract extension will allow us to develop that relationship even more, because it’s a relationship that I want to continue”.

When asked about his expectation for next season he finished with “We’re into the Champions League. Our dream and goal is to win the Barclays Premier League. That’s what we want to do.”
