Manchester United have been rocked by the news that Edinson Cavani has snubbed a move to Old Trafford. David Moyes has been promised a possible £200m transfer budget this summer and he made Cavani his top target.
The Red Devils were willing to smash their own transfer record and make a huge offer of £80m for the striker. United officials already sounded out Cavani over a move a few months back and claimed they would offer him a contract worth £280,000 a week. However, it appears that the PSG man has changed his mind, with Cavani claiming he won’t join as he believes they are a club in decline.
A source close to Cavani said: “He is well aware of United’s interest in him and at one stage this might have seemed like an attractive proposal. But the fact is Manchester United can no longer offer him the standard of football he wants or thinks he deserves.
“The club is going through huge changes and he doesn’t feel the time is right to even consider going to Old Trafford.”
It is understood that Cavani has expressed concerns about the long-term future of United under David Moyes’ leadership and he will instead look elsewhere if he is to leave the French giants. But while the news of Cavani’s snub is a huge blow for the club, they can however take a positive from the fact that they moved one step closer to signing William Carvalho last night, after bidding £25m for the Sporting Lisbon midfielder.
Even so, the fact a star like Cavani is snubbing them is bound to be bad news for Red Devils staff, players and fans around the country.
