Last season proved a chastening one for Chelsea, made all the worse by the relative success of local rivals Brentford and Fulham, but there is likely to be a role reversal over the coming months.
That’s according to betting experts at your-bonus-code.com who have taken a look at the points predictions that betting sites are making ahead of the new Premier League season.
Chelsea’s problems across the 2022/23 campaign are well documented, with the Graham Potter project eventually abandoned at the start of April. Frank Lampard’s return to the club then proved an unmitigated failure as The Blues finished in 12th place and with their lowest points tally since they were last relegated from the top flight in 1988.
Mauricio Pochettino’s appointment is seen as key to Chelsea’s revival though, and they are expected to improve by a full 23 points, a result which would see them jump up to fifth in the league. At first glance that estimate feels on the optimistic side, particularly with saviour-in-waiting Christopher Nkunku ruled out till Christmas, but betting sites have evidently seen enough green shoots of hope at Stamford Bridge.
The outlook is much gloomier a few miles down the road, where both Brentford and Fulham have been predicted to finish over 10 points adrift of their most recent totals. The reasoning here is understandable – Brentford will be without their talisman Ivan Toney until mid-January and must also hope Mark Flekken proves an adequate replacement for the outstanding David Raya, whilst Fulham are struggling to ward off Saudi Arabian interest in both Aleksandar Mitrovic and Willian.
Inevitably there’ll be a surprise somewhere along the line, but as the famous saying goes, ‘you never meet a poor bookmaker’ so look out for a role reversal taking place across west London in the months ahead.
