Chelsea join the front runners in race for Marco Rojo

Jose Mourinho has joined Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United in the race to sign Sporting Lisbon defender Marcos Rojo. Rojo has been in fine form at the World Cup and it is highly speculated that Liverpool are to launch a ÂŁ12 million bid for the defenders services. 

Barcelona and Juventus have us been linked with the versatile defender however reports in Portugal suggest that Chelsea have emerged as suitors for the Sporting Lisbon defender.

Sporting wrapped up a ÂŁ3 million deal for Ryan Gauld from Dundee United to potentially replace Rojo if he is to leave Portugal. Another player who could be on his way out of Sporting is William Carvalho with Manchester United and Chelsea battling over the promising young Portuguese midfielder. 

Rojo is wanted by Chelsea to replace Ashley Cole as they are struggling to come to an agreemeant over a fee for Filipe Luis of Atletico Madrid. Rojo’s agent, Carlos Goncalves has insisted that Rojo is happy in Lisbon, but he believes that the defenders performances at the World Cup are bound to bring speculation over a move. He said, ‘When someone shines on a stage like that it is natural to attract attention.’

Will we be seeing Marcos Rojo in the Premier League next season? We’ll have to wait and see.
