Chelsea are leading the race to sign Everton star Ross Barkley according to the Daily Telegraph.
Chelsea were close to signing the England international last summer but chose to turn down the offer due to a bad injury he sustained.
Barkley was interested in a move to the Blues, but he turned them down, as he wanted to regain fitness and recover from his injury before making such a big decision.
The 24-year-old has not played a single minute of football this season due to a nasty torn hamstring.
Barkley will be out of contract next summer though and it remains to be seen whether Chelsea will submit a bid in January or wait and gamble on getting him at the end of his contract.
Spurs are also monitoring his situation but would rather sign him as a free agent to avoid the transfer fee so Barkley could have a choice of multiple clubs come next summer.
Everton manager Sam Allardyce has admitted that he will have no control over what Barkley chooses to do and is resigned to the fact that they could lose him.
Meanwhile, Barkley is hoping to return to action for Everton as he nears recovery.
