According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are lining up a move for £15million rated CSKA Moscow midfielder Aleksandr Golovin in the January transfer window.

The Blues’ Russian owner is said to be keen on bringing his compatriot to Stamford Bridge and would like to do a deal before the World Cup where his value could potentially increase.

Golovin has played 15 times for his country and has been tipped as one of the potential stars of next summer’s tournament.

He is only 21 years-old, but has plenty of experience having already played almost 100 matches for CSKA Moscow, including their Champions League loss to Manchester United on Tuesday.

A creative midfielder, he cites former Blues flop Alexei Smertin as one of his idols along with Zinedine Zidane.

“Golovin should not be out of place at Chelsea. He is the best young player in Russia at the moment,” said club captain Vasily Berezutsky about his teammate.

There is talk that the Blues will try and secure a deal in the new year and let Golovin out on loan for the rest of the season with a view to incorporating him with the first team next summer.

Despite signing the likes of Tiemoue Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater last summer, it appears that Antonio Conte is not fully satisfied with his midfield options and wants further reinforcement.

Defeat to West Ham United on Saturday leaves his team 11 points behind leaders Manchester City in defence of their Premier League title having played a game more than Pep Guardiola’s side.
