Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel has revealed that he’s held talks with Chelsea Football Club about signing Baba Rahman.
The 22-year-old left-back was signed in 2015 for an initial £14m from Augsburgand is just one of many of Chelsea’s young players out on loan.
However, after having trouble establishing himself in the the Blues first-team, Baba was loaned out to Schalke last summer.
And now Bundesliga outfit Shalke could be keeping the young defender in Gelsenkirchen following a quite impressive stint.
Baba may also be keen on the move as Chelsea have a reputation for putting a lot of young players on the back burner.
It’s bizarre that the Blues have all this young talent out there on loan yet they still send scouts to watch a 20-year-old Polish striker when they have young strikers keen to get in the side.
Same situation with Rahman, he was keen to get into Contes side, but has to read everyday that scouts are sent out to watch Defenders.
“We are in talks with Chelsea and the player,” Heidel said today.
“It is possible that he will be back at Schalke next season.
“We will not wait until he is fit again to make a decision – you cannot do that to a player.
“I think that there will be something to announce soon.”
Rahman has played 13 games for Schalke this season but is yet to find the net.
