According to the Spanish news outlet, AS, Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen is aware of interest generated by Real Madrid towards him and is not hiding his desire to sign with them.
The 26-year-old is running out of a contract with just under 18 months left in his current deal. While Tottenham have offered him a new one, Eriksen is reportedly stalling from signing it.
The report also claims to have spoken with the attacking midfielder’s agent who stated that an agreement over a new deal has not been reached yet. Previous reports claimed that Tottenham had doubled Eriksen’s £75,000-worth wages but understandably that is not enough to woo him.
Real Madrid themselves are struggling to keep up with their elite status after the departure of both Zinedine Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo from the club. Florentino Perez is looking to restrengthen and two of his top targets are Eriksen and Eden Hazard.
The latter is facing a similar contract situation at Chelsea and could be off to the Santiago Bernabeu next summer for as much as €112m. Should Eriksen enter the final season of his contract without agreeing to a new deal, Daniel Levy might have to start entertaining offers from the Galacticos which are estimated to be around €100m.
Eriksen is one of the best creative midfielders in the Premier League and has been in fine form for quite some time. He could certainly succeed into the shoes of 33-year-old Luka Modric.
