Former Chelsea legend Frank Lampard will join Manchester City on a short-team loan deal.

The midfielder has agreed to join MLS outfit New York City, but the American campaign will not start until March.

And now it is understood that Lampard has agreed to join Manchester City, rejecting the chance to play for Melbourne and Queens Park Rangers.

The player will stay at the Etihad Stadium for six months, enabling him to maintain fitness levels ready for a new beginning at New York City.

City will register the player for both the Premier League and Champions League as they hope to retain the league title next year.

It is a move which is believed to suith both parties with City keen to boost their quota of English players in a squad full of foreign stars.

This shock move will certainly unnerve Chelsea fans alike, with the blue side of Manchester hoping Lampard will join the squad before Sunday’s Community Shield clash with Arsenal.
