Manchester United have won the race to sign Radamel Falcao from Monaco on loan.

The Colombian hitman has been after a move away from France all summer, with Real Madrid looking the most likely to sign the player throughout the duration of the transfer window.

In the last 24 hours, it appeared that the battle to sign Falcao was between Arsenal and Manchester City, but United have stolen a march on their rivals and have sealed a deal to bring the forward to Old Trafford.

Falcao has joined United on a season long loan, and will fly to Manchester where he will complete his medical at around 5pm tonight.

With Robin Van Persie about to go under the knife and have surgery on his persisting knee injury which would see the player have a spell on the sidelines for around 4-6 months, United boss Louis Van Gaal has seen Falcao as the perfect replacement for the Dutch striker.

It appears that the loan deal could be worth up to ÂŁ24 million pounds, with Daley Blind also set to be confirmed by the club soon.
