Conte urges clubs to not let Manchester City buy star defender

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has urged other Premier League clubs to fight with Manchester City for defender Virgil van Dijk.

Conte said that the current Premier League table leaders shouldn’t be able to easily acquire Van Dijk, and other rivals should do their best to prevent City from bagging him, for the sake of more even competition.

‘Every team, every club, must pay great attention,’ Conte said. ‘Because if a club like Manchester City takes all the best, it will be very difficult for us to fight. Not only in England but in Europe.’

Currently with Southampton, Van Dijk was linked with a move to Liverpool in the summer, and seems to be in demand once again with other Premier League clubs.

The 26-year-old Dutch footballer had joined Southampton from Celtic in 2015, and has played a total of 63 games till date for them.
