Football has lost one of its most beloved sons.
Diego Maradona passed away last night aged 60.
The Argentine legend had been battling with heart problems and stomach issues for a long time. His over consumption of drugs and alcohol later the withdrawal from those made Maradona’s life difficult.
The AFA said on Twitter: “The Argentine Football Association, through its president Claudio Tapia, expresses its deepest sorrow for the death of our legend, Diego Armando Maradona. You will always be in our hearts.”
Maradona won the 1986 edition of the FIFA World Cup with Argentina. He was the player of the tournament and very few will forget the exceptional tournament he had.
The moment that stood out was the semi-final when his ‘hand of God’ goal gave Argentina the equaliser versus England before he dribbled past 7 English players starting from his own half to score the winner!
A true legend of the game, a personification of the beautiful football we play and Maradona will forever be remembered as one of the all time greats of football.
His exceptional performances extended to the club level as well where he made Napoli a force to be reckoned with winning the Serie A with the Italian club twice.
Rest in Peace, Legend.
