Argentine rules himself out of Chelsea running

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has ruled himself out of the running for the Chelsea job by confirming his desire to stay in Spain.

Simeone has been heavily linked with taking over at Stamford Bridge in recent weeks, but with reports claiming Antonio Conte is close to taking over, the Argentine has now confirmed he won’t be leaving Atletico.

Conte is expected to be announced as the new Chelsea boss by the end of the month, and with Simeone making his announcement, it looks like a dead-cert that the Italian will become the next Blues manager.

Simeone was high on Roman Abramovich‘s wishlist after sacking Jose Mourinho, but he has today released a statement revealing his desire to stay at Atletico.

Simeone Statement

“This is my place now,” he told Mexican newspaper Record.

“In my career I was a bit of a nomad, as since I was 20-years-old I have been travelling and playing in different places, both as a player and as a coach.

“I always say that your place in the world is where you feel good. You can be in a marvellous place, and feel bad.

“So obviously that is not your place in the world.”
