Dirk Kuyt throws weight behind Steven Gerrard for Liverpool managerial role

Dirk Kuyt, a former Liverpool striker, has made news with his strong support of the next Liverpool manager. In the wake of speculation regarding Jurgen Klopp’s substitution, Kuyt has placed his backing behind his former comrade, Steven Gerrard.

In an exclusive interview before of the LFC Legends charity game against Ajax Legends, Kuyt expressed his full backing for Gerrard to take over at Anfield.

“You could see from a distance [Alonso would be] a manager one day,” stated Dirk Kuyt

“For me it would be amazing if one of my former team-mates like Xabi or maybe Steven [Gerrard] in the future will become a manager of Liverpool FC,” Kuyt professed.

“That would be amazing and I think both will do well.

“Obviously you see Stevie is now a little further from the job but he also has experience with Glasgow Rangers and then Aston Villa.

“He is now maybe in a place where people don’t like him to be but he is still doing the job and getting experience and that is how you become a better manager in my opinion.”

Despite Gerrard’s present position at Aston Villa and his journey into the Saudi Pro League, Kuyt remains convinced that Gerrard is the best choice to manage Liverpool.

Kuyt has taken notice of Gerrard’s remaining longevity at Rangers, where he won the league title in an unbeaten season, as well as his commendable European performances.

Although worries about his current responsibilities, Kuyt, along with other former Liverpool players such as Luis Garcia, believes Gerrard’s qualities of leadership make him an excellent choice for the managerial position at Liverpool.

While Kuyt’s support may appear optimistic given Gerrard’s current situation, it shows Gerrard’s ongoing appeal and admiration among many Liverpool fans.

Whether Gerrard will return to Anfield is unreliable but Kuyt’s supporting adds fuel to the speculation surrounding Liverpool’s search for Klopp’s replacement.
