Liverpool have agreed a £14.5 million deal for PSG central defender Mamadou Sakho, the 23 year old reinforces Brendon Rodger’s defensive options and for the new campaign.

Liverpool announced that deal had been done on twitter saying, ‘Liverpool Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Frenchman Mamadou Sakho from Paris Saint-Germain.’

Sakho has played 150 league games for PSG and has picked up 14 international caps for France but Sakho has been struggling for first team football after the signing of Thigao Silva and Marquinhos.

Sakho will compete with Daniel Agger and Kolo Toure for a starting place in the heart of Liverpool’s defence, Martin Skrtel remains at Anfield but is expected to leave the club with large interest from Napoli.

Liverpool have also signed Sporting Lisbon youngster Tiago Ilori for a reported £5.9 million offer plus related bonuses for the 20 year old’s services.

Ilori told the clubs official website, “It feels great being a Liverpool player – coming to the Premier League has always been a dream for me. I’m going to try and achieve everything I can. I want to play as much as possible and we’ll see what the future holds. I will give my all and try my best to help the team. “

“I know the history of the club and the Premier League is the best league in the world, in my opinion,” added Ilori. “Liverpool have a great team and I think it’s the place for me to be at the moment.”

“I know there have been some great teams here in the past and the club has won a lot of trophies and I want to be a part of it.”
