Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde was all praise for his forwards after his team thrashed Huesca 8-2 at Camp Nou last night. Huesca surprisingly led after just three minutes thanks to a goal from Cucho Hernandez. However, Barca talisman Lionel Messi equalised in the 16th minute before an own goal from Jorge Pulido in the 24th minute gave the hosts the lead. Then Luis Suarez made it 3-1 before Alejandro Falguera scored to make the scores 3-2 at half-time.

The second half was also a goalfest but this time, Barcelona scored all of the goals. Just three minutes into the second half, Ousmane Dembele scored before Ivan Rakitic netted Barca’s 5th in the 52nd minute. In the 61st minute, Messi scored his second and Barcelona’s 6th of the match. Jordi Alba made it 7-2 in the 81st minute before Luis Suarez converted from the spot in stoppage time.

Following the match, Ernesto Valverde said, “We did a lot in attack, we scored eight goals, we played well and created a lot of chances. It’s a good day, Huesca are a tough opponent. They were good on the counter, with [Juan Camilo] Hernandez or [Alex] Gallar. The match in some parts was difficult but we were patient enough. We pushed them and we had enough resources to come back and score a lot of goals.

In the first action of the match we conceded the goal, the second we also didn’t expect because we had just scored the third. So at half-time we were a bit doubting ourselves. Then in the second half we won the match and we scored many goals because we played very well.”

The victory sees Barca at the top of the table, pushing Real Madrid to second position. However, Valverde said that this doesn’t bother him at present. He said, “The league just started. I don’t give a lot of importance to being top of the table now because of goal difference. There are a lot of matchdays to come. Atletico [Madrid] and Valencia dropped some points but the league just started. Obviously we have to choose always to be on top.”

The Blaugrana next take on Real Sociedad on September 15.
