Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien is to complete a move to Italian Serie A side AC Milan, with the Ghanaian flting out to Italy tonight, to finalise the deal.

It is still unknown weather it will be a permenent move, or a loan deal, which either would suit the out of favour midfielder.

Essien joined Chelsea in the summer of 2005, but has fallen out of favour over the past few years, with Essien spending last season out on loan at La Liga side Real Madrid, then managed by Jose Morinho of course.

Essien was Chelsea’s record signing when he arrived from French club Lyon for ÂŁ24.4m, and helped them win the Champions League – although he was an unused substitute in Chelsea’s historic Champions League Final won over Bayern Munich, having just played ten times that campaign.

Following 35 appearances with the Spanish giants under Jose Mourinho, he followed the coach back to Chelsea after his loan spell ended.

However he has struggled for a place in the team this year, starting only two Premier League matches since his return to London.

He will be joining a side in barrent form, and currently in 11th place in Italy’s Top flight, however, under new manager Clarance Seedorf, things look brighter in Milan.

Manager Seedorf stated….

“Michael Essien expected in Milan this evening.”

Essien helped Chelsea to two Premiership titles, and Four FA Cups during a nine year spell.
