Manchester City to step up interest in Isco

Real Madrid star Isco has sparked rumours over his future at the Bernabeu by admitting that he will never be the first-choice playmaker at the club.

Manchester City are said to be at the head of the queue to sign the 23-year-old, who worked under City manager Manuel Pellegrini at Malaga.

According to the Daily Mirror, Pellegrini is keen on a reunion with his former player.

Isco, while hugely talented, has often been overshadowed at Real by the likes of Colombian James Rodriguez.

He has had a run in the team this season, but this has been mainly down to a lengthy injury list.

Real boss Rafa Benitez does not see Isco as first–choice, and Isco has two years left on his current deal.

A key factor on whether he signs a new deal will of course be guarantees of more regular action.

Isco was one of the few Real players given credit by the fans after their 4-0 El Clasico thumping by Barcelona, giving the player a standing ovation.

He is reported as saying he fancies ‘a change of scenery’. Arsenal and Chelsea are keen, but Isco’s history with Pellegrini may just swing the advantage City’s way.
