Ashley Young has reiterated his desire to extend his Manchester United contract.

The 33 year old has been one of Jose Mourinho’s most trusted aides and has played with utmost desire and intent whenever needed. His foray into the fullback position made him a permanent fixture for the Red Devils last season which also saw him being the first choice left back for Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions in the World Cup.

His impressive form compelled the club to trigger the one year extension but he will be out of contract at the end of the season and there has been no deal in offing so far.

The emergence of Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw has put his position under danger to some extent but still the 33 year old warhorse has managed to rack up 11 starts in the Premier League this term.

On being asked about the current contract he answered, “That’s up to the club.

“I feel as fit as when I was 21 years old. As long as my legs can keep taking me up and down the pitch, I’d love to stay here.”

“When you join a club like Manchester United , as soon as you walk through the door, if you don’t know the history, give it a week you will know the history,

“You get that feel of the club, you know the size of the club. For me the biggest club in the world, always has been, always will be.

“I know the history, the boys in the squad know the history. It’s all about winning trophies, silverware. That’s what the club is all about.

“I’m 33, nearly 34 now, that’s not changed for me. I still want trophies, still want to win things and that’s what everyone in the squad wants. Everyone wants to win.”
