PSG centre-back, Silva, a loan target for struggling Blues
Chelsea have added Paris Saint-Germain’s Thiago Silva to the transfer list, to bolster their defensive options.
The Brazil centre-back, 31, has been added to a list which includes Silva’s compatriot Marquinhos – also of PSG – alongside Everton’s John Stones.
Silva is seen as a short-term solution to Chelsea’s defensive problems, with both Kurt Zouma and Gary Cahill having being tested out alongside Blues veteran and captain, John Terry, to form a solid partnership at the back.
Chelsea leaking goals
The Blues have conceded 34 times in 22 appearances this season, which has left them shockingly 14th in the table and four points clear of the relegation zone.
Interim boss Guus Hiddink, who replaced Jose Mourinho, is in need of some January reinforcements and could pay Silva’s £170,000-a-week wages.
Chelsea saw their £30 million bid for Stones rejected in the summer, but, while he remains a target and the club continue to work on a deal, the Blues look increasingly likely to make Silva their short-term fix.
PSG’s 21-point lead at the top of Ligue 1 could mean the French champions allow the Brazilian to leave, with the title all but wrapped up after just 22 games.
