Guus Hiddink has lifted the lid on which Chelsea player he reckons has improved most since his arrival at the club.

Hiddink is at Stamford Bridge on an interim basis, and will be replaced in the summer by Antonio Conte.

But Hiddink believes youngster Ruben Loftus-Cheek has grown as a player before his eyes at the club.

Despite the Blues’ current poor form, including today’s 3-0 loss to Manchester City, Loftus-Cheek made his third consecutive start today.

Hiddink said: “There’s nothing to win for Chelsea at this moment, but they must show themselves.

“That’s why we put some young players on, to give them a chance, not against lower qualified teams but also strong teams.

“I must say, Loftus-Cheek has now started three in a row and is gathering the experience to be grown.”

Hiddink also revealed that he hopes some of the senior Chelsea players would become role models for the younger stars.

He added: “It’s good to see younger players coming through, but it’s better to see them development under the lead of big players.

“That is lacking a bit.  If you have leaders, it’s easier for them to integrate.

“But Loftus-Cheek is developing himself well.”
