Claudio Ranieri confirms Leicester pair can leave if they want

Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri has confirmed that Jeffrey Schlupp and Leonardo Ulloa are free to leave the club in the January transfer window, if they see their futures away from the King Power Stadium.

It has been a stellar year for the Foxes, with their unlikely Premier League triumph being followed by a strong showing in the Champions League this season, where they are currently on the brink of qualification for the knockout stages.

Ulloa and Schlupp have so far failed to commit their futures to the club, and neither has been in the thick of the action much so far this term.

West Bromwich Albion have been keen on Schlupp, 23, for a while, and Ulloa, 30, has attracted the attention of Swansea City and Sunderland.

And Ranieri has admitted that he may be powerless to stop the pair leaving, if they want to.

The Foxes boss said: “I understand them. “Always I say to my players it is important to stay together but if they don’t feel good because they want more it is important to speak and look what is the best for the club, the team and themselves.

“I understand it is not possible to retain one or two players only because there is the Africa Nations Cup.”

Leicester are set to lose two players to the African Nations Cup when it starts in January. Riyad Mahrez and Islam Slimani are both set to be called up by Algeria.
